Sometimes on a skx it can add to the charm (I tell myself this to appease the OCD within) but I recently got a sumo hulk and even my mm300 which was a lot more money that had it too. Yet it’s happened with a dozen seikos I’ve owned. Having said that I’ve never owned another brand where the bezel and/or chapter ring have been misaligned that I can recall. Now it’s kind of become a catch 22 for Seiko as people look and look until they find something a lot of the time due to the reputation. I’ve owned a lot of Seiko divers, most of the mechanical ones at some point in some colour or variant and one thing I’d say from experience is when I’ve see a really cheap version online from a grey market dealer- these have tended to be the ones with QC issues. That Seiko is the one that nearly tempted me out of Seiko retirement. I’d say they are comparable in terms of the value/quality proposition. Having owned many CWs and Seiko’s, I was still happy to part with the extra cash that was required for this over the CW. I’d certainly suggest that you look at one in the metal when you can. Nice proportions and weight and very smart looking for a diver. The CW bracelet is probably a tad better and certainly a little weightier maybe? The Seiko clasp is pressed rather than milled. The bracelet on this is an improvement over Seiko’s usual efforts and is Diashield coated for extra scratch resistance. The 143 doesn’t have a chapter ring so it’s the bezel alignment that might need checking, when you view one. I have never received one with QC issues. I’m a big Seiko fan and currently still own 6. I’ve also owned a couple of CW C60s, albeit, MK1 & MK2s. It cost £1250 with no discounts due to scarcity. Hi Gordon, I have the SPB149 which is an LE version of the aforementioned 143. The photo of the Seiko comes for Wornandwound as part of their review of the watch. They will resume when the shops reopen which is maybe just as well as we should all try on a watch before committing! Goldsmiths are not accepting Clubcard transactions online. There are additional drawbacks at this time. (Eleven years ago when £1 in points got £4 in vouchers I bought a TAG Aquaracer for £100!!!) The SPB is a £1100 watch but by converting some Tesco Clubcard points to Goldsmith’s vouchers (£1 in points = £3 in vouchers) I can get the Seiko for the same outlay as a C60. I would be really interested to hear how owners of Seikos assess the quality against CW.

I know many forum members own one or more Seikos and perhaps someone owns a SPB 143. The white faced black bezel and the black faced burgundy dial. This year I have decided to buy another watch. Some however mention ‘typical Seiko quality control issues.’ It has hardened steel and most reviewers feel it has a quality bracelet. Recently I have come across (mostly) favourable reviews of the SPB 143 which to my eyes looks like a nice watch. Being fairly new to this expensive watch hobby I have never sampled one of Seiko’s products.
